What is it that drives you to show up at Contenders day after day, month after month, year after year?

Seeing our members make progress every day. I couldn’t be any happier when I witness somebody having the “aha!” moment in class and start thriving from there. Also, the Contenders team. We’re like a family and really care about each other. It’s so much fun to be around them.

Tell us about your teaching philosophy. Who were your mentors and biggest influencers?

My biggest influence was one of the professors who taught Sports Science classes in my college. He always said to the class: “Have fun with a purpose and learn by doing. When you leave the gym, you should be smiling and sweating”.

Learn. Train. Contend. What does this mean?

Learn new skills. Improve the skills by training hard. And take it to the next level by getting in the ring and applying the skills in real situations.

Tell us something we don’t know about you:

I make over a gallon of kombucha every weekend, and I’m pretty proud of it.

What have you learned since starting your job at Contenders?

I’ve learned a lot under the mentorship of Kevin Reynolds and Richard Pelcz. Whether you are at a gym or at work, just focus on the task, do your very best, work consistently, and your hard work will pay off. And that’s what matters. Don’t worry about what other people think of you.
